Sugars, Wrinkles and fat, Oh My!

Still on the fence about cutting sugar from your diet? Here are a few things to consider the next time you reach for a cookie…

Eliminating sugar can result in healthier skin. Insulin that is triggered from sugar causes inflammation which can breakdown the collagen & elastin in your skin. You know what that means...wrinkles and skin disorders. Count me out!

We often think of sugar or carbs as an energy boost. That is true. Sugar/carbs will give us that quick “pick me up” feeling only to result in a “crash” leaving us wanting more sugar to keep going. Without sugar, you will feel more energized because you will have more stable energy levels. When you need an energy boost, snack on low glycemic index snacks.

We all know that cutting sugary treats and carbs will help us on our weight loss journey. Sugar is an empty calorie that stimulates hunger. Therefore, the more sugar you consume, the more you want, the hungrier you feel resulting in added unwanted calories. Eliminate the sugar and that craving cycle will end.

Sugar interrupts your sleep because it causes a delay in the release of melatonin. When we lack sleep, we look for foods that will give us energy...food high in sugar. Not only that, there seems to be a connections between consuming high levels of sugar and food high in saturated fat and low in fiber. When we cut foods high in refined sugar, we are more likely to reach for foods rich in fiber like fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds. These foods are great for your gut! They increase the microbia in your gut which helps remove toxins.

And if that’s not enough...eliminating sugar can help reduce symptoms of anxiety. The “highs” and “lows” caused by sugar consumption can worsen your symptoms because of the release of adrenaline and insulin. Not only that, you will also see a change in your mood for the better. Sugar suppresses hormones that produce new neurons. These neurons aid in better moods while sugar lowers our mood. Without sugar, your hormones are stable which results in a happier you!

If your still not convinced, give it a try. Cut sugar from your diet for a month and let me know how you feel. You’re bound to see positive changes! Good Luck!!
