If you read our newsletter in the mail this week, you've already seen who our Athlete of the Month is for August. (If you haven't received our newsletter, make sure we have your correct mailing information).

We love hearing success stories through Strong Together Fitness and want to share these successes with everyone!

Terry Gibson is a 55-year old grandma, Phys-Ed teacher, bird watching enthusiast who started CrossFit with us a little over a year ago and has seen tremendous results, both physically and mentally. Read more below...

1) What motivated you to start at Strong Together Fitness?

I've worked out all of my life and battled with keeping my weight down. After I went to a "bring a friend" day I realized how much everything could be customized to my strengths and weaknesses.

2) What results/benefits have you seen since starting?

In the beginning I rowed whenever given a choice between rowing and running (my knees and back would hurt sometimes when running). As time went on the coaches encouraged/challenged me to run rather than row, which I did, and I recently ran a 8:35 mile (which was a part of a WOD) and I couldn't believe how far I had come in a year. I have also lost a total of 25 pounds and 3.5% body fat in a little over a year.

3) What do you like best?

I LOVE that each day has a different workout, so you never get bored working out. I LOVE the addition of the All Out workouts, which are typically more cardio based workouts. I LOVE what working out at STF does for me mentally. Knowing that everyone is working hard and pushing on makes me want to keep pushing harder as well. I especially love the "family" atmosphere at STF. There are all ages, genders, body types, etc. but everyone feels welcome and everyone is very supportive of each other. So it's more than a gym, it's a social experience in the gym and outside of it. I LOVE it all!

4) What would you say to someone on the fence about joining? 

I would say that you should not fear the unknown and not listen to anyone who tells you wouldn't be able to do Crossfit. I'm 55 and still can't do a "real" push up or pull up but that doesn't mean that I'm not stronger. And I continue to try to do movements that I haven't been able to do, and have improved in every movement/exercise since I started. I'm probably in the best shape of my life physically and mentally, and you can be also if you give it a try! It's been one of the best decisions I've made in my life, my only regret is that I didn't start doing it years ago!
